Comprehensive Bio

Shanna L. Baron, NP is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse who has specialized in pediatric neurosurgery since 2012. She serves as the Clinical Coordinator at Long Island Neurosurgical Associates (LINA), functioning as the central organizing force of the pediatric neurosurgery practice. In close partnership with each neurosurgeon, she guides children and their families through every stage of neurosurgical care—from initial consultation to long-term follow-up.

While her work is rooted in pediatrics, Shanna’s FNP training enables her to care for patients with congenital and chronic neurosurgical conditions as they transition through adolescence and into adulthood, ensuring continuity across the lifespan.

Before joining LINA, Shanna served as Assistant Director of Nursing at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, following several years as a Pediatric ICU nurse at the same institution, where she collaborated extensively with the pediatric neurosurgery service. She began her nursing career at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. Shanna earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and her Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization from Molloy University. She is an active member of the American Association of Neuroscience Nursing.

In her current role, Shanna provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, coordinating diagnostic testing and imaging, preparing families for surgery, ensuring seamless communication throughout hospitalization, and managing long-term recovery and follow-up. As the primary liaison for all neurosurgical patients, she plays a critical role in delivering consistent, well-integrated care.

As an integrative healthcare practitioner, Shanna believes optimal outcomes arise from exceptional clinical care supported by well-informed and empowered families. She works closely with the neurosurgeons and the broader clinical and administrative teams to maintain a patient- and family-centered approach grounded in compassion, communication, and excellence.

A proud Long Island native, Shanna is deeply committed to the community she serves. She and her husband are raising six children, who inspire the empathy and dedication she brings to every patient and family in her care.
